Hooray for Lensbabies !

Just playing with my lensbaby the other day and came up with this in Fan Tan Alley. I have *NO* idea who the guy in the hoodie is, he was just this vaguely sketchy-looking dude wandering around, but I liked the shot...

It's strange. I never really played with my lensbaby that much when I first got it, but I've started to enjoy it a bit more lately... It hardly has much use for editorial work, but it can sure be fun to muck with if I'm in an artistic mood.

We are the web.

This youtube video has been making the rounds in the blogosphere lately, particularly among those of thus in the information distribution industry, but I thought it would be worth re-posting here. It's a wonderfully mastered clip created by Kansas State University Anthropology professor Michael Wesch. It's definitely worth a watch, even if you HAVE seen it before.

It scares me to think where we're going to be in another 20 years...

Just an update...

So the last week or so has been fairly busy... I shot the Swim Canada Spring National Championships, an event that, sadly, I don't think a single media outlet cared about... Seems kinda silly to me, what with new Canadian records being set and all, but then, I've never understood why some sports are more important than others... Of course, the world's were going on in Melbourne at the same time, so that stole a lot of attention as well, but still...

Not much else has been going on. I've had a couple of shoots for PR companies and such, but nothing overly exciting of late... My dad and I had an absolutely fascinating interview yesterday for an upcoming Hume & Hume. I can't really go posting about it until after it goes to press, but for those of you with any kind of interest in cryptography, make sure you flick through The Monitor section of the TC on April 8.

I'm British !

So I just received my brand-spanking new British Passport in the mail yesterday. It even comes with a spiffy RFID chip... I'm half tempted to microwave it to kill the chip, but I figure the chances of me being spied on are pretty slim... i'm just an innocent photographer, right?

Anyway, I'm awfully excited... This basically means I can live and work anywhere within the European Union without trouble... Hooray for options ! ... Now all I need is a job, and the ability to do more than stumble through foreign languages and I'm set!

New toys...

This is probably ultra-old news to everyone in the world, and their dog, but I've been dabbling with Comic Life. It's this kinda-cheesy, kinda-lame, but kinda-cool 'ware that, apparently, came bundled with my intel iMac... I just never noticed it until now.
Anyway, the basic idea is that it takes a photo and mucks with it a bit, and gives it a bit of a comic-book feel. It's very, VERY consumer-grade, and doesn't have a whole pile of features or anything, but it's kinda fun, and it's a whole pile faster than trying to do the same thing in Photoshop. (Me being an editorial shooter, I really don't *DO* much "creative" work in PS... at least not to this extent, so it would probably take me ages to figure out how to do it anyway.)

It's not super-sexy or anything of the sort, but it's amusing me for the afternoon.

(This photo, for the record, is a self-portrait I shot on a zodiac in the middle of the Saanich Inlet on my way back from covering the SAREX exercise for the TC a few months ago.)

Image test.

This is a brief post to test how image uploading and formatting works here.

Please ignore it.

Well... I'm back...

So, my old blog, which has lain defunct for nearly 18 months now, is dead... At least, it's attached to an email address that I don't even remember, and I don't have the password for it anymore...

C'est la vie.

BUT, seeing as how I'll be shipping out soon, I figured I should have SOME sort of blog... So here I am again. We'll see if I keep this one going a little bit longer :)
